The Kananga mask is not the only one used at Dama; over eighty different kinds have been documented in Dama performances. They represent several human characters well-known by the Dogon community as hunters, warriors, healers, women and people from neighboring ethnic groups; the masks can also represent animals, birds, objects and abstract concepts.
